Meet Linda

Linda Stelling comes from a lineage of artists, craftsmen, and an accomplished gardener. Reveling in the beauty of the land from an early age, she credits her mother’s love of the garden for instilling in her a deep appreciation for the wonders of nature, as well as a gentle but enduring desire to care for and protect the natural world.

Stelling received her BFA from the University of Milwaukee, Peck School of the Arts, and her MFA from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, Calif. She currently resides in Los Angeles.

She has exhibited in international exhibitions in London, Paris, Tokyo, and throughout the U.S. including many galleries throughout Southern California. The UCLA Stein Eye Institute has 20 of her large-scale works installed in its public spaces.

Well known for her conservationist efforts, Stelling creates a wide range of work from oil and acrylic paintings to mixed media works with recycled materials which continue her exploration of the physical world and deepen her connection to both the roots of the past and the boundless promise of the future.

Artist Statement

I am driven by a spontaneous, even instinctive, feeling for the world around us. Color, sound, texture, and scent each carry an emotional narrative and energy that I strive to capture through my work.

Translating these sensations into visual language, I seek to explore the forces that allow us to experience, understand, and render them not just visibly observed but emotionally recognized.

My paintings, sculptural work, and installations all travel through layers of material built up over time, with each element contributing to the creation of the finished piece. Born and raised in the Midwest, since childhood, I have been captivated by the rhythmic shifts of the seasons and the breathtaking color fields that nature orchestrates. My artistic practice is deeply rooted in a love for environmental stewardship, driven by an exploration of the intricate relationships between nature, sustainability, and the spirit of Mother Earth.

Interwoven with this is my fascination with memory, the human mind, and the profound interconnection of past, present, and future—a continuum that shapes both our planet and our place within it.

Through my work, I hope to open a space for viewers to ‘see,’ observe, and experience the complexity of our existence in a single, perfect, suspended moment. I would hope that each viewer will have an experience with my art that will in some small way enrich their exploration of the world around us and their own lives.
